Invasive mussels have hastened the deterioration of Great Lakes shipwrecks, but recent research suggests that mussels can be cleared from an area of the lake bottom. Once they’re gone, another invader, the round goby, might prevent them from recolonizing that area. Does that mean we could remove mussels from shipwrecks to protect them? It’s complicated, but Great Lakes Now’s Nick Austin asks.
